Flavorful But Not Flawless, PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter!

The Good: Good taste, Good ingredients, Easy to use
The Bad: Chocolate flavor is virtually nonexistent, Very expensive, Perishable nature
The Basics: PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter is a fun, flavorful peanut butter that is worth trying, but does not live up to all its flavor promises.

When I encounter a new product from a new-to-me brand for the first time, it is a rare thing that I give that brand or its products a second chance if the first one does not land with me. My wife was researching healthy alternatives for many of the foods we commonly enjoy and she was researching peanut butters. She found that the brand PB Crave made healthier-than-average peanut butters. So, despite the PB Crave Choco Choco Peanut Butter (reviewed here!) not wowing me, I tried another PB Crave peanut butter, the PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter. Truth be told, I actually purchased and tried the PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter before the inferior PB Crave peanut butter. On the plus side, PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter justifies the expense of the brand’s flavorful and delightful alternative peanut butter flavors.

Coco Bananas Peanut Butter is essentially peanut butter with bananas in it and (supposedly) chocolate. While the banana is well-represented, the chocolate is virtually untastable, making it a more average than extraordinary premium peanut butter.

Basics

PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter is a flavored nut spread produced by PB Crave. It seems to be a new peanut butter that is part of their expanding line of flavored peanut butters. Given, though, that I already found the PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter on clearance I, suspect that PB Crave might not be finding their flavored experiments as successful as they might have hoped.

PB Crave’s Coco Bananas Peanut Butter comes in the company’s standard 16 oz. plastic jar. The Coco Bananas Peanut Butter is a brown peanut butter that looks like virtually every other peanut butter until the chocolate in the peanut butter settles and there are little chocolate bits visible at the bottom of the jar. It is a very creamy peanut butter and it spreads wonderfully. The container comes with an easy to unscrew lid that keeps it fresh use after use!

Ease Of Preparation

PB Crave is a peanut butter, so there is not much needed in terms of preparation. Simply unscrew the plastic cap, tear off the foil safety seal below that and consume! It is that easy. Some settling may occur with the PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter. When that happens, simply stir up the jar and the peanut butter blends perfectly to make a very spreadable, creamy peanut butter.

Taste

Opening the container of PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter yields and incredibly strong aroma of bananas. There is almost nothing of a peanut scent to the PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter. The strong scent of bananas is very inviting for those who like the fruit.

In the mouth, PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter tastes almost entirely of roasted peanuts. The sweetness of the peanut butter is delightful and familiar for the first few seconds. Then the flavor of bananas comes to the forefront and it remains as a part of the flavor palate for several seconds. The dryness of the banana flavor blends nicely with the peanut butter and it dominates the finishing flavor of the PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter. There is not even a hint of chocolate in the Coco Bananas Peanut Butter.

The PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter has almost no aftertaste to it, outside a slightly nutty flavor that lingers on the tongue for a few moments after one swallows.

Nutrition

Obviously, as a peanut-based product, PB Crave cannot do much about the lack of nutrition with their peanut butter. Given that the spread is made largely of peanuts, sugar, and palm oil, this was never going to be a nutritious product. There is nothing terrible or unrecognizable in this spread, though. It is, in fact, almost entirely natural!

It is also not the best product in the world for you on a nutrition front. A 2 Tbsp serving of PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter has 180 calories, 140 of which are from fat. Those 15 grams of fat represent 23% of one’s RDA of fat. Unsurprisingly, one serving is 3% of your RDA of carbohydrates, though there are an impressive 7 grams of protein in this spread. There are 140 mg of sodium in the nut spread. This is not a food to try to live off of, even with its smattering of Iron.

This Coco Bananas Peanut Butter is not marked as kosher or vegan compliant. The allergy warning rather obviously warns consumers that the PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter contains nuts and has soy as well.

Storage/Cleanup

Keep the peanut butter sealed and it still has a fairly limited shelf life. The container we bought in mid-November would have expired by February 23, 2014, had I not eaten it all up! This peanut butter is easy to blend and spread even after it has been opened (and refrigerated) for a while!

As a product made mostly of nuts, the PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter is very easy to clean up. Simply washing it off with hot water helps clean off anything this gets on. Hot water is recommended because of the oils in it.

Overall

The PB Crave Coco Bananas Peanut Butter is good, but for a peanut butter that promises both chocolate and banana flavors, it does not quite live up to the promise. Still, it is enjoyable and anyone looking to shake up their peanut butter experience would be likely to enjoy trying it!
