Post Birthday Review #4: The Norpro 3919 Mini Cheesecake Pan!

The Good: Easy to clean, Durable
The Bad: Comparatively expensive, Requires unique paper cup liners, Pain in the butt bottoms.
The Basics: The Norpro 3919 Mini Cheesecake Pan is easy to use, but has some unstated quirks that make it less of a value than other cheesecake pans.

As I continue to look over the gifts I picked up for my wife for her twenty-fifth birthday, I keep finding things that I was excited about getting her, but find are just a little less extraordinary once they are out of their boxes. The Norpro 3919 Mini Cheesecake Pan is an example of that.

The Norpro Mini Cheesecake Pan is a steel and nonstick pan that is essentially like a cupcake pan. I gifted it to my wife because I found a low-cal cheesecake recipe for her online and this pan seemed like it would be perfect for the individual mini-cheesecakes. The pan measures 14” long by 8 1/8” wide by 1 7/8” tall. Each of the cheesecake cups are 1 7/8” in diameter by 1 3/8” tall. Each of the twelve cheesecake cups has a removable bottom.

The removable bottoms seem like they would be handy, especially in removing the cooked cheesecakes, but instead they are a real pain in the ass. When it comes to cleaning or even just filling them and moving the pan at an angle, they often fall out. Even worse, they can lift up and if one is filling the cups without a liner, the batter inside the Norpro Mini Cheesecake Pan comes out the bottom.

Because of the weird size of the mini cheesecake pan’s cups, the Norpro Mini Cheesecake Pan requires unique cup liners to use it properly and get the best results from cooking with it. Unfortunately, there is no paperwork that defines how to order the requisite cup liners and the pan does not include any with it.

That said, the Norpro Mini Cheesecake Pan is very easy to clean, despite the bolts that connect the stainless steel portions to the main nonstick body of the pan. As long as one uses a soft cleaner, baked-on matter comes off the pan exceptionally easily and to be fair the removable bottoms do make cleaning easy.

But, based on the expense and the difficulty in finding liners for this cheesecake pan, the Norpro Mini Cheesecake Pan is not quite worth tracking down and buying.
