More Fish Than Chicken, Meow Mix Pate Toppers Real Chicken Topped With Shreds Of Chicken Cat Food Is Still All Right!

The Good: Nothing bad in it, Gollum enjoys it
The Bad: Comparatively expensive, Not Gollum’s preferred flavor
The Basics: A two meat treat with real chicken, Meow Mix Real Chicken Topped With Shreds Of Chicken catfood is still not the preferred soft cat food of my cat, Gollum.

After Gollum tried and thoroughly enjoyed the Meow Mix Real Salmon Topped With Chunks Of Tuna Pate Toppers (reviewed here!) that my wife and I picked up for him, we picked out eight year old black housecat up some of the other flavors. When preparing Gollum for the Meow Mix Pate Toppers Real Chicken Topped With Shreds Of Chicken cat food, I started to entice him by reading the ingredients list to him. This turned out to be quite funny as the primary ingredient in this cat pate is not, in fact, chicken; it’s fish, just like the other Pate Toppers Gollum had actually enjoyed!

Possibly because it is more fish than chicken, Gollum enjoys the Real Chicken Topped With Shreds Of Chicken Pate Toppers, though in a side by side comparison with the predominantly fish-based Pate Toppers, Gollum consistently chose the fish-based Pate Toppers.

Basics

Meow Mix Pate Toppers comes in a plastic 2.75 oz. single serve container. Supposedly, Gollum for his weight and age should eat two of these containers per day! Even on sale, that would be a costly endeavor. Though $1.26/day for two cans might not seem pricy, it adds up compared to dry catfood that Gollum is used to. The dark orange plastic containers are a #5 recyclable plastic and I am not wild about how much these containers generate in terms of waste.

Ease Of Preparation

The Real Chicken Topped With Shreds Of Chicken Pate Toppers opens up easily enough in the 2.75 oz. plastic container. The small plastic container has a thin foil lid that easily pulls off. Opening the container reveals the food inside. Pate Toppers Real Chicken Topped With Shreds Of Chicken looks like a semisolid block of meat pudding covered in shavings of chicken. This cat food may be dispensed into a cat's food dish by either smacking it against the bottom of the dish or spooning the contents out into the dish. Alternatively, this wet cat food may be eaten right out of the can as there are no sharp edges on the plastic.

Gollum’s Reaction

The Meow Mix Real Chicken Topped With Shreds Of Chicken Pate Toppers smells unsurprisingly of canned chicken. This scent is comparatively mild and did not bring Gollum running for his food dish ever. However, when he was served this Pate Toppers, he did consume it fully. He seemed to enjoy it, even though he never came bounding for it from rooms away. This flavor seems to be one he accepts more than is thrilled by.

Nutrition

The Pate Toppers Real Chicken Topped With Shreds Of Chicken claims to be a great balance of nutrition and taste and it has nothing noticeable bad in it (I'm not a Chem student, so I can't speak for all of the preservatives). But considering that the primary ingredients are mackerel, water and chicken Meow Mix seems to have its act together on making an essentially good product. According to the guaranteed analysis on the container, there is a minimum of 11% crude protein and 2.5% crude fat and no more than 1.5% crude fiber, 3.5% ash, and 78% moisture. This is food appears to be wheat-free.

The recommended serving size is two (2.75 oz.) cans per day, but I cannot afford to give Gollum this regularly. Hard catfood also has clear dental benefits that the Pate Toppers Real Chicken Topped With Shreds Of Chicken does not have. When the cats chew (to split into bite-sized pieces) their hard catfood, it scrapes plaque and tartar off their teeth. There is no such physical operation going on with this catfood. Gollum's mouth smelled like fish for several hours after he ate this food.

Overview

Meow Mix created a healthy cat food with the Real Chicken Topped With Shreds Of Chicken Pate Toppers cat food, but not one that thrilled Gollum in any special way. Given that I am not usually impressed by soft cat foods, when Gollum is more neutral toward them as well, it is hard for me to justify their expense and recommend foods such as this.
